because ana mardoll has sadly resurfaced i’ve really been thinking lately about how there’s a Really prevalent discourse of disability/queer politics that implicitly excludes anyone outside the first world white middle class from Disability or Queerness Activism. ie when people excuse mistreatment of app delivery drivers or amazon workers on the grounds that they’re disabled and Need Their Services—as if ‘disabled people’ and ‘app delivery drivers’ are two discrete demographics whose needs are in opposition—as if disability isn’t often a huge factor in the precarity that forces people into those awful jobs.
when people defend ana mardoll by saying ‘queer and disabled people have a right to survive’ as if lockheed martin does not kill queer and disabled people in the global south. as if lockheed martin bombs do not in fact cause lifelong disability for many people. and ik this is not a new and novel observation and Black women particularly have been saying this about e.g. white feminism for decades but Fuck is it depressing to see these people lay out in such clear terms that their view of disability and queerness is one that Must be ultimately subservient to empire & capitalism and that everyone outside that little delineation is fundamentally excluded from
